The Journey
How We Got Here
Where It Started
Owner Dave got his start at just 14 years old while helping manage vehicle maintenance for his family's pizza delivery business. Going through tires constantly meant spending a lot of time at tire shops, and before long, he realized there was a market for used and scrap tires.
Told It Couldn't Be Done
When he first called a tire disposal company about getting into the business, he was told he'd never make a dollar in scrap tires. Instead of walking away, he started researching. He discovered he could make money hauling scrap tires to Minneapolis, so he found a freight company willing to leave him a trailer and borrowed a pickup to start collecting tires around town in North Dakota.
One Trailer Became an Operation
At first, it was simple. Fill the trailer, send it off, repeat.
One trailer turned into bigger trucks, larger loads, and eventually a full-scale tire recycling operation in North Dakota. While working full time at his family's pizza business during the day, Dave spent mornings and nights building the tire business from the ground up.
Tire Processing Facility
As the company grew, so did the opportunities. A grant helped launch a tire processing facility that created Alternative Daily Cover (ADC) material for landfills.
Acquiring the Landfill
Later, Dave purchased the local landfill itself, creating a major competitive advantage for the business and allowing the operation to continue expanding throughout the region.
Over the years, Dave also noticed that many tires being discarded still had life left in them. That realization led to the creation of Tyre Mart and expanded the business into providing quality used tires at affordable prices.
Family First
Entrepreneurship Runs in the Family
Entrepreneurship and family business have always been part of the story. Dave's family has owned A&B Pizza since 1969, originally started by his grandmother, and one of his sons now work alongside him in the business today.
For over 30 years, Dave and his family have been selling and recycling tires throughout the Midwest. They've seen every type of tire, every industry trend, and just about every kind of customer question imaginable.
That experience is exactly why Tyres 2 U was created.
